Rangers purpose to compete at greater degree in opposition to Lightning in Game 4

The New York Rangers did not make it to the Eastern Conference Finals.

The two-time Stanley Cup champion's mission of defending itself was underestimated.

Now they understand easily how long this project is going to be.

The Rangers received games 1 and two against the Tampa Bay Lightning at home,

But went down and lost 3-2 in game three at Amalie Arena on Sunday.

They lead a best-7 collection 2-1 ahead of game four on Tuesday (8 p.m. ET; ESPN, ESPN+, CBC, SN, TVAS).

"We know they're not going to give you anything now," Gerard Gallant said on Monday.

"They won, what, 10 collections in a row? We have to take it from them.

We're going to be a real perfect team.

We have to go there and take it from them."
